AJS will conduct its annual webinar on July 17 and will feature Kathleen M. Sullivan presenting on the US Supreme Court 2023 – 2024 term.
Kathleen M. Sullivan is the founding chair of Quinn Emanuel’s national appellate practice. Ms. Sullivan has argued more than 200 cases on appeal and is one of the leading members of the Supreme Court bar. She has received lifetime achievement awards from the American Lawyer, Chambers USA, and the New York Law Journal. Her notable Supreme Court victories include Samsung v. Apple, Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum, and Granholm V. Heald. Ms. Sullivan is a graduate of Cornell University, Oxford University, and Harvard Law School, and has been a law professor and Dean at Stanford Law School and a law professor at Harvard Law School. Ms. Sullivan clerked for Judge James Oakes on the Second Circuit. In addition, she co-authored a leading casebook on constitutional law and has been elected to membership in the American Law Institute, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and the American Philosophical Society.
The webinar will be moderated by Camille A. Nelson, Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law. She previously served as Dean of the American University Washington College of Law and Dean of Suffolk University Law School and has been a visiting professor at many other law schools. Dean Nelson’s scholarship focuses on health law, criminal law and procedure, comparative law, and leadership, through the lens of cultural studies and critical race theory. Dean Nelson is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and holds an LL.M. from Columbia Law School. Dean Nelson clerked for Justice Frank Iacobucci of the Supreme Court of Canada. Dean Nelson is an elected member of the American Law Institute, and her scholarship and leadership in higher education have been recognized through decades of awards and honors. Dean Nelson was named one of the Top 35 Women in Higher Education by Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine and was listed as one of the “Most Influential People in Legal Education” by the National Jurist.
