On August 7, 2017, the American Bar Association Judicial Division and the Brennan Center for Justice released a new manual that provides guidance on how courts can increase diversity among federal magistrate and bankruptcy judges.  Authored by Kate Berry (with forward by the Honorable Frank J. Bailey), the new manual entitled “Building a Diverse Bench: Selecting Federal Magistrate and Bankruptcy Judges) addresses the following questions:

  • What does judicial diversity encompass?
  • What values does judicial diversity serve?
  • What is the current state of judicial diversity?

In addition, the manual explores best practices with respect to diversifying the judicial applicant pool and the vetting & selection of judges.
